Well, so I ended up wearing shorts on my birthday…and this didn’t go the way I wanted, not at all…
Like 10 people told me that I looked like I was going to the beach. The very first comment I got in the morning was - “Pratyush you look so under-dressed, did you like put any effort into that outfit?”
I was also told that I looked like an 8 year old, on my 16th birthday…
Oh and all of this adds up perfectly with my insecurity about my tiny height :D
What a combo that was to set me up for a great day ahead!
Oh wait, the cherry on top, because it was also Gandhi Jayanti Assembly time, people thought that I was wearing colored clothes for that, 50% of the people didn’t recognize that it was my birthday, they just stared at me incredulously instead :D
(My friend Nandini, who actually did get dressed up for the Gandhi jayanti Assembly instead, made it look like it was her birthday and not mine)
Now, this blog is going to be a justification behind all of this.
For starters, literally every guy comes to school in jeans whenever it is a colored clothes day. I wanted to break away from that stereotype. Also, I literally come to school in a blazer and formals on a daily basis, seeing me in a shirt would be less eye-catching for the people who see me on a daily basis than seeing me in shorts. This would be more comfortable and it suits me considering I’m always running around from one place to the other in school.
More importantly, it was a tribute to covid. Considering how many days of online school, online video conferences, MUNs, debates and ZOOM meetings I had spent wearing shorts under what I was actually supposed to wear, THIS WAS THE PERFECT TRIBUTE TO IT IN MY OPINION. So, I came in shorts and I don’t regret it one bit 😤
Anyways, for everyone else - Please don’t come to school in shorts for your birthday. Put in some more effort and wear a jeans like you were going to initially. Trust me, that’s the better option.
