(Based on true events)
So I opened the door and walked into my house after returning from school on Tuesday and a notification popped up.
HIGHSCHOOL TUTORIAL - IB BRIDGE COMPLETED
COLLECT REWARDS:
1.TWO MONTHS VACATION (USE THEM WELL)
THE REAL JOURNEY WILL START ON AUGUST 29TH
This is my reflection on my IB Bridge.
It was the most fun I have ever had in school so far. It was the most chill time I’m gonna have for at least the next two years, so I made the most of it. (No, stop imagining, I didn’t do THAT stuff, I’m an innocent kid)Now while I never exactly studied after coming home from school (we like working in a deadline-induced panic before the exams), this time I could do so guilt-free. It felt great :)
I made lots of new friends and tried lots of new things like dancing and acting. (and even cat walking while being tied up with lights like a Christmas tree)
One thing that I was really salty about at the start was the council system and the scrapping of the prefecture system. I had been working really hard consistently to get the House captain position ever since 6th and I was obviously disappointed that the reason I didn’t get it was one I had never imagined - the position itself being scrapped. But it actually turned out for the better. I’ve kind of had a reputation for being a ‘teacher’s pet’ which I disagreed with, but irrespective, my friends called me that nonetheless. This stopped this year because I was just being myself, I wasn’t going out of my way to make teachers know me, I wasn’t "bootlicking" as some have accused me of, and I wasn’t trying to get everyone to like me. It felt lighter.
Now, it’s not all perfect. There is one thing I would definitely change if I was to do bridge again. I would pay more attention in class. Unfortunately, our current self-proclaimed House captain didn’t give the best of advice…and after being told that he watched 4 seasons of Netflix during school hours in Bridge, I didn’t take bridge seriously either. I should have honestly…
I zoned out in half of my Academic Honesty and big write classes, which were really REALLY important to understand the extended essay and citations (they honestly scare me).
I may have taken bridge a little too lightly…can’t afford to do that once IB actually starts.
I’d suggest fewer games of fire boy and water girl, solitaire and the snake game, and a couple more hours paying attention in class in bridge to all of my juniors reading this. (YES IT MATTERS, WE HAD TO WRITE TESTS…although they didn’t count, BUT STILL)
Most kids will bunk some classes at least, but don’t bunk too many and get suspended like a few people. (Pls identify yourselves in the comments)
Of course, I haven’t forgotten the unnecessary relationship drama swarming the grade throughout bridge (raging hormones and free time don’t go well, sigh). I would stay even further away from all of this if I was to go through bridge again. But that’s just me, everyone else who’ll be coming to bridge next year, feel free to shoot your shots. It makes for good character development lol.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I would also suggest being more careful with your phones, they really do get confiscated…unless you’re the tech guy, in that case, you can basically walk around with your earphones and never get scolded.
And one last thing, take care of yourself. Go exercise, eat well and please eat on time. And MOST IMPORTANTLY, DO NOT RUIN YOUR SLEEP SCHEDULE. I am guilty of the last one too, having spoilt my perfect sleep schedule of sleeping around 10 and waking up at 5, to now sleeping earliest by 11 and having no idea when I’ll open my eyes in the morning. It’s not worth it, it’s not cool, and if you’re like me and you don’t drink coffee (survive off caffeine*) you’ll need your sleep to get through the day.
Here’s wishing to all the future batches - an almost-as-good but not quite - bridge experience.
(While I didn’t mention your name(s), you know who you are, you’re responsible for my messed up sleep schedule, and it’s all your fault)
